Your kindness can change lives
People in crisis need your help. Their staff and volunteers are always on standby, and the coronavirus outbreak is no exception.
Each year Tangent’s National Charity would be chosen by the incoming President and launched at our AGM. This year, as things are slightly different to normal, the Executive will be working as a collaborative; we have therefore, together agreed upon a charity to support and are proud to be able to announce the chosen Charity for 2020 – 2021, will be The British Red Cross
They are extremely excited that we have chosen to support them as they are celebrating 150 years and we are celebrating 50 years.
Our clubs and their members are going to be able to support The Red Cross in the UK, all funds raised will be used in the UK. Valentina, their Community Fundraising Support Manager, based in London is going to be our organisation’s co-ordinator for the year and will be helping and advising us on how clubs and you the membership can get involved.
Due to the current Coronavirus emergency, they have initially asked if we can set up a monetary fundraising donation system. This is going to be through 2 channels, the first will be a Just Giving page Just Giving Fundraising – NATC which will mean individuals and clubs will be able to make monetary donations to The British Red Cross (they have a great relationship with Just Giving and do not pay high charges to them); the second channel, for those unable to use Just Giving, will be to make donations into the Tangent Charity Bank account. Shirley Chard, your National Treasurer will let Clubs have the necessary details. Further information will be sent out to clubs over the coming days and advertised on our social media platforms and website.
Over the next few weeks, we will also be introducing other ways clubs and members will be able to volunteer and fundraise. We will be looking for members to volunteer time in their local Red Cross shops (once they are open again), we will be asking you to make donations of items such as clothes etc. to the shops and to volunteer in your local area to help vulnerable people with tasks such as dropping off a wheelchair or picking up a prescription. The possibilities are endless, and time spent volunteering is just as important as monetary donations. They will provide us with Area Coordinators so our clubs and members can contact them to volunteer and get involved.
The British Red Cross will be launching online fundraising ideas which we can take part in whilst we are in lock down, these will include quizzes and a Balloon race! We will keep you informed ….
As we start our relationship with them, and while they are being so badly affected by their shops being closed – what they need most is money to allow them to continue the fantastic work they are doing.
We look forward to building a fantastic relationship with The Red Cross over the next 12 months supporting them through both fundraising and service.
